What do the children in the 3’s class do?
Our prime goal in the three’s class is to provide the children with an environment where they can build trust in adults, feel comfortable in interacting with their peers and explore new interests. Each classroom has defined areas, or “centers”: dramatic play, blocks, manipulatives, sand, water and paint, as well as a cozy reading corner. In the beginning of the year, the teachers “model” for the children and, before we know it, they have made it “their space.” It is the teacher’s job to integrate concepts as well as the children’s interests into these areas. This means that if the class is interested in dinosaurs, there may be a dinosaur “dig” in the sandbox, while another group is deciding how to set up a grocery store in the dramatic play area. Piaget said “Play is children’s work.” and this is certainly seen in our three’s classes.
How many children are in the class?
There are usually 15 children in the class. The class is staffed by an early childhood teacher and an assistant. The classroom has a bathroom attached as well as door (which is locked) to our small side yard, used in the spring for gardening and story time.
Can I visit the classroom?
Absolutely! We encourage you to make an appointment for a tour and spend time with our Early Childhood Administrator, who will “walk” you through the program and, of course, answer all of your questions.
