RNH After School Program: Fall 2007
Apple Picking!
What better way to ring in the fall season than with a fun-filled apple-picking trip? That's exactly what the children of the RNH After School Program (ASP) did, with a field trip upstate for a taste of varieties like Cortland, Empire, and Macoun. And then they topped it off by making the yummiest autumn treat around: caramel apples!
Storytelling!
Of course, fall also means back to school. And this year, we had a special treat for the children in our After School Program: a Storytelling Arts Project. RNH staff trained volunteers 3rd- and 5th-graders in the After-School Programto read stories to kindergarteners, also in the ASP. The "literacy through the arts" project ran for six weeks and was funded by United Neighborhood Houses of New York. It was a huge success with both the young children and the older storytellers!

Creative Theatre!
Some of the children in the After School Program also participated in a Theater Arts Workshop, through a collaboration with our non-profit partner, Arts to Grow. This eight-week project introduced the children to creative theater games, improvisation, physical movement, and character development, so that the students could learn about acting, comedy, and dramatic interpretation. In mid-November, the group debuted their original theatrical work, entitled "The Crazy Neighborhood," for family and friends. The children created, wrote and acted in the play - it was a huge hit!
